A Mark in the Sands of Time

A Mark in the Sands of Time

Thursday, February 1, 2024

Today, I celebrate.

February 1, marks the 2-year anniversary of this crazy, gargantuan adventure I have set myself on.

On this date, just one year ago, I created the MS Word file that has become this series of novels. Since then, I have written 584.192 words, working on this tirelessly 6 days a week, every week, 8 to 10 hours a day.

Before that, I spent a year building this universe, creating its chronology and history, its technologies, societal aspects and various factions. For this, I used the principles of anticipation: taking the world as it is today and pushing its trajectory via a dystopian prism to how I imagine things might come to pass.  AGI will come of age and will belong to mega-corporations, their subroutine instances becoming the new gods of our time. The populations and countries will crumble into obsolescence, the all technological will reign supreme. Total wars will rage and lay all we know to waste. This is the stuff of nightmares, I know. And yet it works. It really works.

Damn, do I hope I’m wrong.

But let's go back to the books themselves:

This project is currently composed of four initial books that compose the main story, the events that will change Mankind forever, one way of another. So far, I have written the first drafts for Books 1 and 2, and am 65% done with Book 3. Once Book 4 is done, I will go back to Book 1 and work on Draft 2, then go through the editing process until I publish.

Depending on the upcoming editing costs and all the adventures that I am sure to encounter along the way, this breakdown might be subject to change. In all probability, it will change.

But that's not all.

This universe I have created will see numerous additions, with another 6 books planned, three of them being already mapped beyond the four I'm working on. Two prequels, one oddity that will link the first quadrilogy to its sequels and then... This is when the plan becomes real science-fiction.

So much has happened before. So much will happen after. There is A LOT to tell.

This dark world and this story obssess me. It is beautiful, and it is terrible to fathom. But more than anything else, these characters haunt me. I love them. I cry for them, I cry WITH them. And I know in my guts you will do the same once you get to meet them.

I just can't wait for you to meet them all.
